Growth & Improvement
At Raven Place, I truly believe in the saying, "When you know better, you do better." We don’t pretend to have all the answers or be perfect — we’re always learning and improving. If we spot a gap or discover something new that can make us better, we make it happen. Whether it's in our operations, sustainability practices, or customer experience, we’re committed to making progress one step at a time. Every small change we make has a ripple effect, and together, they add up to something much greater.
Waste: At Raven Place, we're all about reducing waste and creating practical, sustainable solutions. We’ve developed our own circular economy: food scraps go to the chickens, worms, or compost; spent tallow and coffee grounds are repurposed into tallow soap; and with the addition of coffee grinds, we’ve created a “tradie” or gardener’s soap — perfect for those hard-working hands. It’s all part of our ongoing mission to improve, adapt, and keep making Raven Place a better place, one thoughtful decision at a time.
Problems: We frequently take a close look at every aspect of our farm — currently we are looking into implementing biological rodent control methods that eliminate toxic rodenticides from the food chain, creating a safer habitat for wildlife.
We’ve also had to adjust to unexpected growth! At one point, we were struggling to keep up with orders, but after bringing on a third person to help, we’re now able to better meet demand and offer our customers a much-improved experience.
Another big shift came when I realized that my lingering cough was being caused by cooking with seed oils. After seeing a naturopath, I switched to cooking our Karaage in tallow, and my cough disappeared — it was a game-changer. The fumes from the seed oils were the culprit, and this simple change had a huge impact on my health.
